Endoscopy is medical testing which a medical instrument named endoscope is inserted inside a patient's body to get a clearer picture of some organs or to perform surgeries. Endoscopy is used to examine different body parts.

Endoscopes are the main instrument required for an endoscope. This machine can be either stiff or flexible or wireless. A stiff endoscope is used to examine bone joints while flexible and wireless endoscopes are used to examine organs like bladder, intestine, colon, pancreas, lungs, etc.

Instruments required for endoscopy

To perform an endoscopy, a doctor needs the following machines supplied by endoscopy accessories supplier companies

• Endoscope- either stiff or flexible or wireless

• Flexible forceps- Forceps that look like tong and can be used to take some tissue samples

• Cytology brushes- These brushes are also used to take tissue samples

• Suture removal forceps- a special type of forceps to remove stitches

• Biopsy forceps- used for taking samples of a tumor or unnatural cell growth

Besides that, often special wires are used to hold some instruments during endoscopic surgery. Wires are used to transport biliary stents, needles, etc. The wires are very precise and small in size. These wires are also manufactured by endoscopy accessories manufacturer companies.

How to prepare for an endoscopy

• Doctors will tell you if you need an endoscopy. The doctor will ask you if you take blood thing medicines or medicines to control blood sugar level. You may need to adjust the does of these medicines. Your doctor will guide you to do this.

• You may need to take laxative medicines so that your intestines do not have any stools. This is needed if you have been advised to get a colonoscopy.

• Often doctors ask the patients to eat or drink before six to eight hours before the test is to be performed.

What to do during the procedure

Usually, it takes a maximum of one hour to complete. Patients can go home after the process is complete. In certain situations, the patient is given local anesthesia so that the patients do not feel the pain. Anaesthesia also makes the patient feel relaxed during the entire procedure. This anesthesia helps the doctors to perform the test easily. During the test, the doctor may monitor or record images for future reference.

In case of surgeries, the doctors operate and monitor the patient. During operation, the doctor may place some stents or artificial organs. Doctors may remove some tissues for examination.

After the procedure

Patients are sent to a recovery area after the endoscopy is complete. Since the patient is given local anesthesia he or she may feel little dizziness. Hence, they are given enough time to recover. You may feel difficulty while seeing or standing alone. Hence, doctors advise the patient to come with someone so that they can go home safely. Patients are advised not to drive or walk alone or sign any documents or attain any important meeting after getting an endoscopy done.

Usually, endoscopy does not cause any major problems. But if you experience vomiting, nausea, fever or other problems you need to contact your doctor immediately for medical attention.
